Review: It had to be love because breaking through Colin’s prickly exterior and his absolute refusal to enjoy life was a feat. One that only Walker seems able to bust through. Review: I have to admit, I’m pretty obsessed with this series. Yes, it’s book one, but I read book 2 first, and yes, there are only two, but I don’t care, I know the rest of the series is going to be amazing too. So I can already tell you this is one of my favourite series from any author. It’s gritty and complex. It’s perfect. This series is exactly what I picture most rock bands from the 70s, 80s, and 90s were like…messy and chaotic. River was such a great person to start this series with. He’s a mess too, but not in the usual rock star chaos way. He’s a carer and carrying the weight of fame, his difficult childhood and the troubles of his bandmates are drowning him. Until he meets Emory. Emory is real, despite his own fame, he’s exactly who River needs. Someone he can care for, but also, someone who makes him a priority too. Review: Two grumps is an entirely underrated trope. Seriously, move over sunshine, I want grump on grump action any time of the day. I mean angry, closed-off, and frustratingly sexy men are definitely my kink. This was definitely darker than the other books in the series, with a dark past for Adrian and a fair amount of suspense and mystery to move the story along (which gives these men a push in the right direction to admitting their feelings). I enjoyed the development of these two, their growth, and their recovery from their pasts and perceived notions of themselves. Helped in part from their found families. And, the ending, awww. In the end, it turned out these two grumps were really pussycats. Review: My first foray into Kaje Harper’s work. And I very much enjoyed it. A crime thriller that brings together two men. The cop investigating the murder, and the teacher who finds himself caught up in the killer's web. The hunt is on. This will keep you engaged the whole way through, both to see whodunnit and hoping that Mac and Tony will make a go of it. Narrator JF Harding definitely helped make this a great read/listen. They do a great job at capturing the dark, tense tone of the thriller, but also the light and sweet moments these two share. I loved the pace, and the writing, and though I like both characters, Mac is my one. I love a tortured soul. Closeted, in a job not very welcoming to gay men, with familial responsibilities that compound his need to stay closeted. Just trying to hold everything together.
