REVIEW: In the Picture by Nico Flynn (Army Awakenings #2)

IN THE PICTURE Army Awakenings - Book Two by Nico Flynn Release Date: January 19, 2023 Review Another neat short story by Nico Flynn. How to tell if someone is in love with their roommate. Look at the photos on their camera! All it takes is a good razing from his friends for Chase to realize he may have a thing for his roommate and best friend Noah. But how do you subtly find out if they may have a thing for you too? This is a snippet of time, so you don’t really get their backstory, but it’s not necessary to get a feel for how close they are, and it was fun to see the moments when they finally figure out their feelings. I enjoy Nico’s short stories a lot.  Looking forward to what comes next. When they point out that his phone is filled with nothing but photos of Noah, hi...

NOVELLA REVIEW: Sing in the New by Nico Flynn (Slow Burn Holidays #3)

SING IN THE NEW Slow Burn Holidays - Book Three by Nico Flynn Release Date: December 29, 2022 Review This has been a cute series of holiday-themed novellas about guys who needed to find the courage to tell their best friend the truth about their feelings. Sing in the New is book 3, and was really great. Nick and Tyler were really great guys who have been pining for each other for years, but it takes Nick’s mother laying down an ultimatum with Tyler, and some meddling on her part (!) to get these two over the friends-only line. Sometimes even if you can see the signs, you still need a loving push to help you along the way. It was a really lovely moment when they finally admitted their truths. Such a sweet story. Add to your TBR List GOODREADS LINK Synopsis They both want it. They just need some help getting there. The older I get, the less I care about all the BS in life... especially the things that have held me back from telling Nick how I feel about him. The fact that he’s my b...

REVIEW: Say It Out Loud by Nico Flynn (Slow Burn Holidays #2)

SAY IT OUT LOUD Slow Burn Holidays - Book Two by Nico Flynn Release Date: December 8, 2022 Review Say It Out Loud is book two in the Slow Burn Holiday series, this one at Christmas, and was even better than the first. As best friends, Ezra has a lot to lose by admitting to Jack that he loves him. And though all the signs may say go for it (along with friends and family), it’s a whole other thing to trust fully enough to take the shot. Nico does a great job developing the characters and describing the fear felt, and the bravery required to go for it.  The characters felt mature and had depth, despite this being a short story. It was also a little wistful and sweet. I’m looking forward to Book 3. Add to your TBR List GOODREADS LINK Synopsis It’s only a matter of time until Christmas works its magic on them... Jack and I lived together for our entire twenties, friends so close that everyone just assumed: if we weren’t already together, we would be soon. Honestly, I believed it ...

NOVELLA REVIEW: Speak My Language by Nico Flynn (Slow Burn Holidays #1)

Image
SPEAK MY LANGUAGE Slow Burn Holidsays - Book One by Nico Flynn Release Date: November 17, 2022 Review This is a cute premise for a story. Falling in love with your roommate but not knowing if they return the feelings. No matter what you do to show them, they don’t respond. Until your landlady introduces you to the concept of love languages. So of course you decide to conduct an experiment to see if maybe you’ve been doing it wrong. Chris embarks on a journey testing these ideas in very cute ways. Perhaps they aren’t the most scientific experiments but then getting the right outcome is all that matters. This was a nice little Thanksgiving friends-to-lovers romance with a sweet happy ending. Add to your TBR List GOODREADS LINK Synopsis What do you do when you can’t figure out if your roommate is interested in more? Try out the Five Love Languages on him, of course. Like bros do. I’ve wanted my roommate, Oliver, since the day we moved in together five years ago. There’s just one pro...
