REVIEW: Glitterland by Alexis Hall (Spires Universe #1)

GLITTERLAND Spires Universe - Book One by Alexis Hall Re-Release Date: January 17, 2023 Review This book is a lot. In the best way. Alexis has a really unique descriptive writing style that is addictive. But he also writes such flawed characters using humour and quirky situations that they find themselves in. In Glitterland, Ash is almost consumed by his mental health. Until he meets Darian a charmingly ridiculous man that wants Ash for exactly who he is. Not who he was, who he could be. In turn, he just wants to be loved for who he is. It’s a romance of two men, but it’s also a romance with one's own mental health. Learning to love yourself as is, learning to accept yourself. Freeing yourself to live happier.  “So, lemme get this right. We're gonna make a go of it. You and me? Togevver? Even though I'm orange and you're mental?” The depiction of mental health is at times uncomfortable. It’s very real, but also beautiful.  “I'd wasted so much of my life. So many of ...

REVIEW: Paris Daillencourt is About to Crumble by Alexis Hall (Winner Bakes All #2)

PARIS DAILLENCOURT IS ABOUT TO CRUMBLE Winner Bakes All - Book Two by Alexis Hall Release Date: November 1, 2022 Review I really like Alexis’ writing style. It’s quirky, funny, and really engaging.  I will admit I don’t love single-person perspective stories.  I like really knowing both characters, that being said, Alexis crafts a really good story.  Paris has anxiety. And there is no hiding from it in a single POV story. Through the wild antics of Paris going on a baking show, coping with dealing with people, his own insecurities, and the world of internet people, you cannot escape his anxious thoughts and self-doubts. It actually borders on uncomfortable. And though you feel for him, at times you can’t help but sympathize with Tariq when he at times is frustrated with Paris. But let me say this…it makes the 2nd half of the story extremely satisfying. And the ending, more so. The self-growth both characters go through is very gratifying and really makes you really...

AUDIO REVIEW: Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall (London Calling #1)

BOYFRIEND MATERIAL London Calling - Book One by Alexis Hall Release Date: July 7, 2020 Review The writing is fantastic, and the narration is even better.  Joe Jameson is phenomenal. It’s my first audiobook with him as a narrator and I was blown away. I love the story and the premise. A son of moderately famous parents, particularly an absent father back in the limelight.  This means the tabloids have renewed interest in Luc, and all his failures (real or otherwise).  Along with a cast of slightly nutty friends, colleagues, and family, a plan is hatched to get a fake boyfriend to rehab his image to save his job. Enter Oliver. A very proper, very English lawyer, who drives Luc insane at every turn. Very kind, very organized, and very thoughtful Lawyer. One has to say, Luc is obnoxious, self-centred, and a complete disaster. I wasn’t sure I was ever going to like him. He’s rude to pretty much everyone who cares about him and never pays attention to anything that doesn...
