I love their dance around each other before hooking up, and I especially enjoy the way they each support and hype the other one up. This one is all about family—the support of good ones and the difficulties of bad ones. Cal is an utterly devoted father who is recently divorced from a toxic woman, and his family (especially his dad) isn’t much better. He’s struggling with the transition of only having his daughter every other week, while also co-running a business. Julian on the other hand has been co-parenting his siblings since his mother passed away. Putting his dreams and life on hold. And that’s exactly how Drake finds himself a part of Black Cat Circus. The bad boy in need of a safe place. Eli is an adorably awkward guy working a mediocre job with dreams of being a photographer. He plays it safe and quiet. What he needs is a Daredevil to breathe some life into him and help him take chances. They are an adorable pair. I love every scene with Drake pushing Eli to do something out of his comfort zone.  Eli experiencing those moments, the exhilaration, the joy, was wonderful.  I do recommend the audiobook, it’s fun to have these two brought to life by Zachary Zaba. They each have so much going on in their lives but the love and support they provide the other (even before they realize it’s what they are doing) are perfect. I loved watching the walls come down and the slow trust that was built. They are the kind of men who are willing to help others (or animals) but don’t realize (or believe) they deserve the same. And when they finally do…it’s so satisfying.  As usual, EM writes amazingly real and complicated characters. Ones who can frustrate you, while also making you feel compassion for them.
