Review

Ah, geez, Garrett writes the most beautiful broken men!


They both carry the weight of decisions and actions. They are both left lost and hurting, even though they are surrounded by an incredibly caring and fiercely loyal found family. But somewhere in the push and pull of caring for each other, and not wanting to, they find something tender and gorgeous.


These are real people, living in grey and chaotic lives, making the most of what comes their way, and fighting to live and love (even when some days they don’t want to).


And as much as I loved this couple coming together, I’m also completely in awe of Mal finding love with his brother and friends again. 


Garrett always enthralls, and I’m here for this new series that also gives us glimpses of past characters. Cam, I love you all over again.

About Garrett Leigh

Garrett Leigh is an award-winning British writer, cover artist, and book designer. Her debut novel, Slide, won Best Bisexual Debut at the 2014 Rainbow Book Awards, and her polyamorous novel, Misfits was a finalist in the 2016 LAMBDA awards, and was again a finalist in 2017 with Rented Heart.


In 2017, she won the EPIC award in contemporary romance with her military novel, Between Ghosts, and the contemporary romance category in the Bisexual Book Awards with her novel What Remains.


When not writing, Garrett can generally be found procrastinating on Twitter, cooking up a storm, or sitting on her behind doing as little as possible, all the while shouting at her menagerie of children and animals and attempting to tame her unruly and wonderful FOX.


Garrett is also an award winning cover artist, taking the silver medal at the Benjamin Franklin Book Awards in 2016. Quiet, a little grumpy, a little withdrawn, and maybe a little lost and lonely. Then there’s Cash - outgoing, sexual, and completely obsessed with Declan.  It’s a slow burn. One that requires both of them to shift their understanding of each other, and time to truly learn and understand both themselves and the other. I love both the trajectory of the relationship as well as the life and home they build.  It’s a truly wonderful pairing that may be my favourite in the series. Sure I see a bit of myself in Declan, but I also just adore the way Cash grew and how they balanced each other. Fenton Release Date: August 5, 2025 Review I wish there were more mystery romances out there.  I love the mystery-solving, both the entertainment value of the cases, but also as a plot point to a developing relationship. And Declan and Charlie are a dynamic duo. They have great banter, but are also caring people. Book three, and Declan and Charlie are still finding their way as boyfriends and colleagues, but it’s clear they could be amazing. And now Charlie is learning to become a detective, too. They each take on a case, but before long, they find their cases connecting. Which is perfect, because they do their best work together.
