Review

Gwil and Hyax are such a wonderful and unusual pairing.  The fae prince and regular class vampire.


But things are shifting in their relationship constantly, and they are both still navigating their relationship. Now that Hyax has a political marriage, and Gwil’s status is on an upward trajectory.  Despite the years they’ve known each other, they are reminded of the importance of communication and that there is still plenty to learn about each other and their people.


How much they love one another never falters, though.


While navigating their lives and roles, they are still solving cases, and the current one proves to be a doozy.


Along the way, we continue to meet and get to know the fascinating cast of characters that surround them. It’s a wonderful world that Rebecca has created.

Synopsis

Gwil and Hyax are asked to investigate a mystery hidden under the streets of paranormal London. Hyax can’t make head nor tail of it, and Gwil has to call on his special contacts. When they discover what is lurking beneath Dante’s department store, they realise it could destroy the city.


Despite the case, Gwil can’t quite believe how well his afterlife is going. After nearly two centuries in the shadows, the elite areas of vampire society are finally on offer. Things are even going well with his fae partner’s family, with Prince Hyax’s mother keen to have him take on special duties. What could possibly go wrong?

REBECCA COHEN spends her days dreaming of living in a Tudor manor house, or a Georgian mansion. Alas, the closest she comes to this is through her characters in her historical romance novels. Quiet, a little grumpy, a little withdrawn, and maybe a little lost and lonely. Then there’s Cash - outgoing, sexual, and completely obsessed with Declan.  It’s a slow burn. One that requires both of them to shift their understanding of each other, and time to truly learn and understand both themselves and the other. I love both the trajectory of the relationship as well as the life and home they build.  It’s a truly wonderful pairing that may be my favourite in the series. Sure I see a bit of myself in Declan, but I also just adore the way Cash grew and how they balanced each other. Fenton Release Date: August 5, 2025 Review I wish there were more mystery romances out there.  I love the mystery-solving, both the entertainment value of the cases, but also as a plot point to a developing relationship. And Declan and Charlie are a dynamic duo. They have great banter, but are also caring people. Book three, and Declan and Charlie are still finding their way as boyfriends and colleagues, but it’s clear they could be amazing. And now Charlie is learning to become a detective, too. They each take on a case, but before long, they find their cases connecting. Which is perfect, because they do their best work together.
