Review

This was a really great novel, that is character-driven has some external angst and tension and solid HFN. The writing is detailed and thoughtful.


British transplant Arrick finds himself in a small struggling American town having given up his dream job and taken up a career teaching in a high school that could definitely use some TLC, though it’s not lacking in caring, supportive teachers.


And that is where he meets the outgoing and nosy (!) vice-principal Evan. There is immediate interest between the two, but Arrick has walls miles high, and they are boss/employee. 


It’s a slow burn as they get to know each other, and Arrick settles into his new life. And though their relationship may be new, it’s a good start to something solid.


It also has kittens!!

Synopsis

After a life-shattering clash with his father and the end of a toxic relationship, musical actor Arrick Filan has no more fight to give. Running to the other end of the world and returning to his roots as a small-town teacher seems like a good idea. A temporary solution. Evan Miller’s a vice principal, adores teaching, and his focus is on his friends, his dog and his job. Setting eyes on the new music teacher at Ashland High has Evan greeting a quest for love with open arms. His relentless attempts at friendship and romance force Arrick to examine his past. Could starting something new with Evan be worth the potential pain? Arrick has kept his heart and history close to his chest, but glimpses at his passion for music and teaching make it impossible for Evan to turn away.

Christina Nolte has been writing stories all her life, some with her friends during class or in online forums, but most of them by herself. She has written pirate adventures, science fiction, many a fanfiction, and is now venturing into the original work territory.

At university she studied English and Theology and is now a teacher at a high school in Germany, where she lives with her Jack Russell mix, Minnie. She loves romance novels, historical fiction and Star Wars, enjoys the outdoors and working with a drama group.

This third book has been teased in previous stories. That of Kevin and his immense crush on his friend's dad. With a significant age gap, Kevin’s insecurity over his gender fluidity, and Garrett’s job that has him on the road 3 weeks out of 4 every month, these two have a few hurdles to navigate if they want to get their happy ending. Though Garrett accepts his bi-sexuality with relative ease, there is still the need to come out and face how others will feel about it.
