Review

These stories get better and better. Evie has an interesting style that mixes sweet and tender, with emotional upheaval, truly crappy people, and some sort of high-octane drama (ie. kidnapping, murder, etc). There is also an incredible found family at the centre of it all, not only do they care deeply, but they also have a whole host of skills and resources.

Miguel and Zach are truly good people who care deeply and have a strong sense of duty. They have both sacrificed for their family and are learning to live for themselves. That’s easier with someone who sees you and thinks you are pretty amazing as you are.

There’s definitely drama along the way, though not between Zach and Miguel. Miguel’s family life is rocky, particularly due to his love of makeup, and Zach not only has crappy parents but also works for a horrible boss. Their loved ones aren’t immune to having terrible people in their lives either.

While the progression of their relationship is sweet and caring, their lives outside of that are in chaos, and there are a couple of truly heartbreaking moments. But with the help of their amazing friends they come through it all with a beautiful love and bright future.

Miguel

From the time I was in elementary school, it was clear I was never going to pass for straight. It took a long time and a lot of work for me to be my authentic, fabulous self. Not everyone accepts the eyeliner, eye shadow and lip gloss along with the corsets, especially not the masc guys I’m attracted to. Until I meet Zach Kelley. Tall, dark, handsome, and straight, he tells me my makeup looks nice and that he likes the way I dress. It doesn’t at all help my straight-boy crush that he’s also super nice and hella protective. But I’ve been there, done that and almost got my head bashed in for my trouble. I won’t be going for the straight guy ever again, even if he does give the best hugs.

Zach

From the age of sixteen I have lived my life in a narrow lane of work and service. First it was taking care of my younger sister, now it’s taking care of both her and my three-year-old nephew. I don’t have much time for friends or fun working two jobs and serving my country in the Army National Guard. Until I meet Miguel Ramirez. Miguel is a ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds and he breaks me out of my self-imposed isolation. From the moment I see him, I’m drawn to him. My thoughts constantly turn to him, and I find myself watching him whenever he’s in the room. I think about him so much, I’m beginning to believe I’m not as straight as I thought I was.

Evie is a new author who has always been an avid reader, mostly fantasy, science fiction and, of course, romance. After raising three children into adulthood, acquiring a master’s degree, and opening a counseling practice, she figured she didn’t have enough to do, so she decided to write books. Evie lives “down the shore” in New Jersey with her husband, her youngest son, his fiancée, and her goofy Rottweiler. Every summer she complains about “the bennies” coming down and snarling up the traffic, but she’s a Jersey Girl through and through.
