Review

I enjoyed this story, early work, from KM Neuhold. Book One in her tattoo-themed series, Heathens Ink.

Thane and Madden meet at a nightclub where a shooting takes place. Thane rescues Madden and subsequently becomes a lifeline and friend to the troubled tattoo artist.

Madden has a lot to deal with. Not just physically recovering from the gunshot wounds, but also from PTSD and addiction recovery. While it’s lovely having someone to take care of you, sometimes you need to learn to lean on yourself first.

It’s heartbreaking to see all that Madden has to deal with, but also for Thane to realize he can’t fix his problems, no matter how much a loves him.

This was a heartfelt story that really delved into the effects of addiction and mental health on everyone.

Narrator Cooper North did a nice job with this story.

Synopsis

I’ll save you as many times as I have to, even if it means saving you from yourself

My heart pounds erratically as the crowd swells around us, panic thick in the air. This can’t be how I die, not here, not tonight. Through the throng of bodies, I can see him...Thane. Of all the ways I thought tonight would end, this wasn’t even on my list. Pain lances through me and I can tell by the look in his eyes that whatever just happened, it’s bad. My hand reaches for my leg and I find it sticky and wet with my own blood.

Whatever happens, I know Thane will save me.

Screams, and blood, and tragedy haunt my dreams. I'm alive and I owe it all to the gorgeous former marine who refused to leave me for dead. But how can I start a new relationship when I'm not even sure who I am anymore?

About KM Neuhold

Author K.M.Neuhold is a complete romance junkie, a total sap in every way. She started her journey as an author in new adult, MF romance, but after a chance reading of an MM book she was completely hooked on everything about lovely- and sometimes damaged- men finding their Happily Ever After together. She has a strong passion for writing characters with a lot of heart and soul, and a bit of humor as well. And she fully admits that her OCD tendencies of making sure every side character has a full backstory will likely always lead to every book having a spin-off or series. When she’s not writing she’s a lion tamer, an astronaut, and a superhero…just kidding, she’s likely watching Netflix and snuggling with her husky while her amazing husband brings her coffee.
