NOVELLA REVIEW: Blue Plate Special by Layla Reyne (Table for Two #2)

BLUE PLATE SPECIAL

Release Date: January 24, 2023

Review

I enjoy Layla’s storytelling. I’m still relatively new to her work, but I’m enjoying the journey of her men.

This is a touching novella involving a best friend's dad after years of having lost touch.

Noah’s love language is food. It’s also where he found solace over the years. Solace from an abusive father. The Rosin family was his escape. But it’s been thirteen years since he last saw any of them.

He’s found a home at a diner where he’s made a name for himself serving up farm-to-table comfort food.  Food that ends up reconnecting him with Ezra. There are concerns about the potential repercussions of their relationship, but there is also a chance at finding a home with their one.

This novella has so many things.  Small-town charm, a sexy age gap, found family and second chances. It has appearances by various characters from other stories, and though I sometimes felt a little confused by them, it doesn’t impact the story of these two.  It does intrigue me to go read the other stories though.

Synopsis

Giving orders in the kitchen is chef Noah Becker’s specialty. He’s made a name for himself dishing up seasonal, farm-to-table comfort food at the local diner. A name that isn’t really his.

The last person Ezra Rosin expects to find while he’s on sabbatical in a small town is his son’s best friend. The one he helped disappear thirteen years ago. The one who’s grown into a hauntingly beautiful man.

Noah and Ezra grow closer, reconnecting over their shared love of food and wine until their friendship smolders into more. They agree to explore the unexpected dynamic, to enjoy each other while Ezra finishes the semester, but when past and present collide, Noah and Ezra must decide if their chemistry across the table and between the sheets is enough to cook up a delicious future together.

Blue Plate Special is a stand-alone M/M foodie romance novella in the Table for Two universe. It features an age-gap romance between mature characters, family finding their way back to each other, and lots of noshing.
